I like to tell stories through my photographs, but if I’m honest, there are lots of stories families hope are not so obvious in my photographs. The Coleman family came to me this summer after having spent a week together on a combined family vacation. That would be the grandparents, their three sets of married children and all seven grandchildren together in one space sharing one schedule for one entire week. That’s a whole lot of togetherness! Finding creative ways to cozy the children up to each other at this point was a challenge. So let me paint the picture behind the camera for you…..six adults waving hands wildly, calling out their children’s names in funny voices, begging and pleading for their attention, and promising payouts of candy for smiling faces. The magic moment that was rewarded with all seven sets of eyes upon me was when one brilliant mom pulled the family-sized bag of M&M’s from her purse and began shaking it over my head. The tears and squirmy bodies stopped ever so briefly. Click! And six satisfied parents scooped up their children to head back to their respective homes and declare the vacation over for another...

From the start, Chanel won me over with her gorgeous Aussie accent, her confident style and her easy laugh. Joseph, originally from Tennesse, resides in Charleston on behalf of our military. The two met in school where Chanel was an exchange student. By the way, LOVE her name! From her pin curls to her Laboutins, Chanel was gorgeous! She could strike a pose like nobody I’ve ever seen, and then suddenly break into laughter over something Joseph said or did. You’ll see plenty of giggling during the ceremony over something to do with the rings. hmm….. And Joseph had the most interesting way of standing for his portraits…poor Chanel couldn’t keep a straight face. Aside from lots of laughter, there was lots and lots of kissing. They kissed for about a minute during the ceremony (try that sometime) and pretty much the rest of the day……you’ll see! The neatest thing about these two lovebirds was that I didn’t do a bit of posing or scripting for their pictures. This is them….all the way to the bouncing on the bed as I left for the night. The location here was one of my all time favorites. The immaculate accomodations at The Wentworth Mansion have been enjoyed by the rich and famous…..and me. : ) The officiant was Nancy Russell. Dinner and cake was served by Circa 1886. That is her brother helping her pin a brooch to her sash….isn’t that just...

Jill and I have known each other for several years now, beginning with a meeting to discuss her wedding as she was newly engaged. Jill and Stephen are well into a happy marriage and have a little girl named Kendall now. Besides being a wife, a mom, and a full-time career girl, Jill has an acting bug. It’s something she’s always wanted to do. Her recent spot in a commercial and contracting with Tout Modeling Agency led her here to start a portfolio. We were going for a clean, put-together look for Jill, and Leslie Moore of Moore Makeup gave us exactly that. We began in the studio and moved outdoors for a variety of different lighting. Aside from Jill’s obviously piercing blue eyes, she is extremely smart and witty. I think you can see that in her eyes very clearly. So who do you see Jill portraying? An attractive young doctor, an attorney who fights for the underdog, or perhaps the cuter-than-average housewife next door. I’m looking forward to seeing what Jill has in store for the world….and saying I knew her...

Every year when Mike and Nicole make their way back to South Carolina for a summer visit, we try to coordinate our schedules for a portrait session. The last time I saw Nicole she was expecting James, so this was my first time meeting the little guy in person. What a treat! Somehow we managed to pick the hottest day in August for our session. Mike told me that our 100 degree day was nothing compared to the summer temps in Arizona where they live. And Mike spends his days on a golf course so he would know! Check out those blue eyes he inherited from Mom and Dad….and how do you resist those lashes? James was giving us his “big smile” here. James has his eye on something and we are about to go chasing it! And he is ready to move again. That’s what little boys do…move, move, move! I’m pretty sure this look meant he was ready to go. Then he found a door…a possible escape…and told us in his own way it was time to go. I can’t wait to see you again next...

See Jessica & Travis featured today on The Wedding Row! Their beautiful wedding was at the Inn at Middleton Place this past April. Let me just say I’ve never seen a bride, or whole wedding party for that matter, handle an outdoor wedding on a rainy day with such grace! It was truly a beautiful day. Many of the details were DIY, including the handpainted signs which hung from trees, the branch easels which held handpainted tree slices, the colorful paper cones at the candy table, and so much more. The ceremony site was set overlooking the Ashley River. The bride’s makeup was by Leslie Moore of Moore Makeup, and all of the flowers were by Country and Lace...

So I have spent the better part of today sorting through old photographs that span my mother’s childhood, the earliest pictured here, to present day. My mother will be celebrating a milestone birthday next week. It wouldn’t be prudent for me to mention numbers or ages. But I will say that it has been a journey through vintage black and whites, the presently fashionable 70’s cross-processing, and into the start of the digital age that did not measure up to its film counterparts at the time. These photos will be artfully set to music in an effort to show my mother how much her daughters love her. And of course to make her cry. We girls enjoy making our mother cry happy, nostalgic tears. I’ll admit that my own eyes watered up a bit today at the...

Welcome to the new blog! It is up and running just in time to announce a one-day workshop I am hosting on September 18th. It will be lots of fun (because we love what we do, right?!) but the spaces are limited. This workshop will be great as a refresher course for some of you, and it will be useful to anyone who would like tips and tricks to mastering natural light, flash and off-camera lighting in your photographs. There will be lighting equipment set up for the workshop, but it is recommended that you bring your own equipment so that you can master what YOU work with every day. Everyone will get a chance to shoot in multiple lighting situations and have their questions answered. Snacks are provided, but you must find your own lunch during our break. Get more info and sign up here for the workshop and keep an eye out for future...
