Kim’s approach to photography is romantic and nostalgic yet her work remains fresh and inventive. She loves to play with light. She seeks out the emotive faces and tender touches, the bits and pieces of things. Kim’s images are unique and beautiful, interesting and unexpected. She peers inside each moment she captures and draws from the emotions and the energy. Kim’s work ventures beyond her two-dimensional medium. Through Kim’s lens we can see the heart of her subjects and we can feel the moment with them.

Born Kimberly Ann Sowell in Shelbyville, Tennessee. By her fourth birthday her parents, Wallace and Shirley Sowell, had relocated the family to Cullman County, Alabama and so, naturally, Kim calls the great state of Alabama home or “sweet home” if you will. Kim now resides in the beautiful and historic city of Charleston, South Carolina, where she has lived and worked since 1996. Kim is the proud mother of three children, Nathaniel, Nicolas and Grace.
